New Delhi:Actor Celina Jaitly is set to essay the role of the Irish-Born disciple of Swami Vivekananda, Sister Nibedita, in the biographical drama film.
The film is directed by Ram Kamal Mukherjee and also reunites the actor with the filmmaker after their collaboration on the short drama "Season’s Greetings".
Sister Nibedita was a social worker, author, and teacher who became one of the foremost disciples of Swami Vivekananda. She relocated to Calcutta in 1898. She dedicated her life to educating girls and nursing the poor.
Jaitly shared the news with a post on her Instagram handle on Monday. She said Sister Nibedita is not just a historical figure, but a woman "who gave up everything she knew, her homeland, her identity, and her comforts, to answer a higher calling".
"#sisternibedita 'Love India.'….These were the words Sister Nibedita often repeated as the essence of the instruction given to her by Swami Vivekananda when she asked him how she could best serve him and his mission," Jaitly, known for her roles in films such as "No Entry", "Golmaal Returns" and her breakout debut "Janasheen", wrote in the caption.
"Today, we often celebrate success. She reminds us to celebrate service. She reminds us that a meaningful life is measured not by what we accumulate, but by what we contribute. When you work with a visionary filmmaker like Ram Kamal Mukherjee, you are not simply playing a character. You become the custodian of someone else’s life and legacy," she said.
The actor praised Mukherjee's cinema and said it is "deeply rooted in literature, history, and emotion". "I am profoundly grateful to him, and to my producers Aritra Das and Sarbani Mukherjee, for entrusting me with this humbling responsibility. Portraying Sister Nibedita carries an immense responsibility. Not only towards history. Not only towards cinema. But towards every person who continues to draw inspiration from her extraordinary life," she added.
